Truck Accident Ties up Traffic at Foothills and Colorado

City of Boulder CO, Sep 03, 2008

An accident in the intersection of Foothills Parkway and Colorado Avenue has resulted in lane closures that are expected to last through the evening commute. There is only one lane open northbound on Foothills Parkway. Traffic coming from Colorado Avenue will be unable to turn north onto Foothills Parkway while crews work to repair a downed traffic signal light. Southbound lanes remain open, but delays are likely as a result of the cleanup activity.

The repairs are expected to be completed sometime between 10 p.m. and midnight. Traffic control personnel will be on site through the evening to help direct traffic. Nonetheless, motorists are urged to find alternate routes.

The accident was called into dispatch at about 1:55 p.m. Initial reports are that a car heading eastbound in the left turn lane on Colorado Avenue ran a red light and hit a trailer being pulled by a pick-up truck that was headed north on Foothills Parkway. The car continued across the northbound lanes and hit a commercial box truck. The box truck went into the median, then veered off to the right and hit a traffic signal pole.

Two motorists were transported to the hospital, but their injuries are not expected to be life-threatening. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
