ST. IGNACE - A deputy with the Mackinac County Sheriff Department was arrested on two criminal charges following a month-long investigation conducted by an independent agency.
The Mackinac County Sheriff Department confirmed that Deputy Keith Grogan has been charged for writing checks on an account containing non-sufficient funds. The checks were apparently written to the inmate trust fund.
It is unclear from the press release when the incidents occurred, but they were only recently discovered during an audit conducted in the weeks since Scott Strait - the new sheriff - took office earlier this year.
Grogan was officially arrested last week on this matter and was subsequently released on a personal recognizance bond. He is currently on administrative suspension.
SAULT STE. MARIE - Sault Police issued a pair of citations Monday following a 3:25 p.m. accident at the intersection of Easterday and Ryan.
Reports indicate an eastbound vehicle driven by Dana M. Rensberry, 19, of Alpena failed to stop for a red light, striking a second vehicle. Major damage was noted but all of the involved parties escaped unscathed.
Rensberry was cited for disregarding a stop light and on a second charge for no operators license on person as police concluded their investigation in this matter.
SAULT STE. MARIE - City police also cited Robert G. Bouschor, 28, of the Sault for disregarding a stop and go light and no registration.
Bouschor was ticketed following a police investigation into a 7:30 a.m. crash after he apparently ran a red light, striking a second vehicle. There was medium damage noted to the involved vehicles and although one individual complained of minor injury immediately following the crash, this person did not require any medical attention at the scene.
Vehicle damaged
SAULT STE. MARIE - Sault Police were called to a mishap on Three Mile Road where a vehicle lost control and wound up in a ditch approximately a half-mile from the Mackinac Trail intersection.
According to reports, the passenger-side tires of the westbound vehicle dropped off the roadway, pulling the vehicle off the paved surface. No one was injured in the mishap and police did not issue any citations.
The vehicle sustained minor damage in the 8:45 a.m. Monday incident.
Hit and run
SAULT STE. MARIE - City police are also investigating a hit and run accident which reportedly occurred in the parking lot of an I-75 Business Spur retail store. The damage is believed to have been done sometime between 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Police believe a truck was involved in this incident due to the height of the damage on the parked vehicle.
