Pedestrian Killed In Traffic Accident

A 78-year-old Kapa‘a woman was hit by a truck this morning and later died at Wilcox Hospital.

According to police, the 28-year-old driver of a pick-up truck and his 22-year-old passenger were heading towards Kapa‘a Elementary School on Kawaihau Road in the vicinity of Malakea Street when the truck ran off the roadway and struck Theresa Fujitani who was a pedestrian on the sidewalk.

The vehicle then slammed into a nearby utility pole before coming to a stop. Fujitani was transported to Wilcox Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the pick-up and his passenger were also brought to Wilcox for treatment. In a preliminary police report, speed and medication were cited as possible factors in the case.
