San Marcos, Texas Police Investigate Overnight Truck Accident

Police from San Marcos, Texas are looking into a late night eighteen-wheeler truck accident Friday following the accident on the east side of Interstate 35 at McCarthy Lane.

The crash, which occurred at 11:43pm, left Matias Doreteo Lujan, age 47, of Dallas, Texas, unable to free himself from the scorching hulk of wreckage engulfed in hot flames.  A Hays county Justice of the Peace pronounced the driver deceased at the scene.  The county, as well as Texas Highway Patrol, are continuing an investigation into the incident.

Police reported the eighteen-wheeler veered onto the right-hand shoulder of the road and struck a vacant vehicle abandoned on the shoulder of the interstate. The eighteen-wheeler then barreled through the guardrail just south of the McCarty Lane overpass and subsequently rumbled almost eighteen feet towards the ground, where upon landing, became engulfed in flames.
