William T. Claypoole a 40 year old resident of Vancouver, Washington was driving a 1996 Freightliner truck pulling a set of double trailers loaded with recycled materials. The truck was registered to Tiben Enterprises in Canby, Oregon.
Claypoole pulled into the Ridgefield Port of Entry, northbound I-5 at mile post 15, and was stopped by Officer Pam Striker after she observed the coupling hitch connecting the rear trailer to the front trailer was not latched. While conducting the inspection Officer Striker then learned Mr. Claypoole had a felony warrant for a previous charge of drug possession. Troopers Bill Jordan and Robert Wollnick responded to assist. While searching the cab, drug paraphernalia and several baggies containing residue were discovered. Troopers then called for K-9 Molly to respond to complete a search of the vehicle.
A drug recognition expert (DRE) later determined that Mr. Claypoole appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamines.
The driver was booked into the Clark County Jail for the felony warrant and for possession of Methamphetamines.
