Truck Accident Reports

It's basic to the trucking industry and federal law that if you do not have a commercial driver's license (CDL), you cannot drive a commercial motor vehicle. But if you do not have a regular driver's license that is accident free, you cannot obtain a CDL. That same rule applies for retaining a CDL. If the national database that contains a trucker's driving record has too many truck accident reports, your CDL will be suspended, for 90 days to 5 years, or permanently. That could signal the end of your commercial trucking career. In addition, if you are in a trucking accident while taking your driving test for your CDL, you can receive a failing grade and have to take the test again. In addition, your driving record can be affected by driving a truck that is out of service due to a failed inspection. Such a violation can lead to a 1 year suspension of your CDL.

Fast Facts

  • Statistics indicate that 27% of truck drivers involved in fatal accidents had at least one prior speeding conviction.
  • Part of the testing process for a CDL includes being able to inspect your own truck for proper safety and equipment standards.
